1 What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to keep, and that your browser hands back on later visits. They make pages work, remember a choice, or count how many people read an article.

They are called first-party when they belong to the site you are visiting and third-party when they belong to someone else. On this site every cookie is first-party, including the ones Google provides: they sit on the datashaker.ch domain.

The site uses no other browser storage — no local storage, no session storage, no local databases.

2 Your consent

Necessary cookies do not require your consent: without them the pages do not work, and the law does not ask permission to make them work. Every other cookie is set only after you have consented, and until then none is written.

Refusing is free and costs you nothing: the site stays exactly the same and fully accessible. No content is reserved for those who accept.

3 The cookies this site sets

The list is complete and checked on every release: an automated check blocks publication if an external service appears that is not declared here.

4 External services that set no cookies

Some parts of the site rely on external services that write nothing to your browser but still need a connection to their servers to work. We list them because your browser contacts them, even though they leave nothing on your device.

• Google Preferred Sources — the “Choose Datashaker as a preferred source” button at the foot of the pages. Google provides it, and it loads even before you have made a choice, because it is the interface element itself: without loading, it would be a button that is not there.
• Sanity — the library the site's text and images come from. See the subprocessors for details.

5 How long your choice lasts

Your choice lasts twelve months, then we ask again. That holds for a yes and for a no alike: a refusal is not a sentence to see the banner on every visit, and consent is not forever.

If we change something substantial — a new service, a new purpose — the version of this notice goes up and the banner returns, because your earlier consent was about something else.

We keep a record of your choice so we can show it was collected properly. That record holds the date, the version of this notice, the language the question was put to you in, which categories you were offered and what you answered. It does not hold your IP address, or anything else that could lead back to you.

6 Where the data goes

The statistics cookies are provided by Google Ireland Limited, which is the Google Analytics provider for Switzerland and the European Economic Area. Data may also be processed in the United States: Google LLC adheres to the Data Privacy Framework, recognised by the Swiss Federal Council for transfers from Switzerland.

Google Analytics 4 truncates IP addresses before recording them. We neither receive nor reconstruct the identity of anyone visiting: what we see are aggregate numbers — how many visits, which pages, from which country.

7 How to change your mind, and who to write to

The simplest way is the button in section 2: it reopens the panel, where you can change any category or withdraw everything. Withdrawal takes effect immediately and you owe no explanation.

You can also delete cookies from your browser settings, and set it to refuse them generally. Some parts of the site may then behave differently, but all the content stays reachable.
